Though I'm not sure what role it will play, it does seem like Grey Scale or some kind of plague is coming to Westeros. Between Shireen, Tyrion's falling into the infected waters, and Jon Connington falling ill, it's going to be some kind of a plot point.
I was reading "Fevre Dream," and in it, one of Martin's characters refers to yellow fever as "Bronze John." This is terribly similar to Bronze Yohn Royce, who seems to be the Vale lord to fear as far as Petyr is concerned--the most dangerous surely, and the one to whom Sansa has come closest to revealing herself.
I was going to pass it off as maybe a joke or just play on words, but in looking up Bronze John on the web, I found an alternate name for yellow fever, the Saffron Scourge. Is it just coincidence that Harry the Heir's love of the moment is named Saffron? Is Martin playing with these names for yellow fever for a reason? Do these references mean there may be a plague unleashed on the Vale or is it more metaphorical--the sickness in the society itself?
On the other hand, it might mean nothing at all, but it did make me curious.

That's really interesting. That can't be a coincidence, can it?? That two different characters involved in Sansa's storyline right now share names with nicknames for yellow fever?? And you bring up Jon Con and his spreading greyscale; he is currently with Aegon, whom so many people speculate will end up as another one of Sansa's suitors... hmmmmmm.
Perhaps this is what gets Sansa to the Quiet Isle? Maybe kindly old Septon Meribald is at the Gates of the Moon for the tourney when the first symptoms manifest themselves... perhaps in Sweetrobin... and he suggests everyone (or at least a select few) migrate to a nearby island where they can receive treatment/refuge? Yes, Sansa AND Harry AND Littlefinger all on the Quiet Isle together -- hoo boy! LOL!

If this happened, I could see our novice Gravedigger "losing his religion" to use an old Southernism (and to quote R.E.M.)! Lol! Though the Elder Brother's healing arts would be even more important in such a situation--it's as good a reason as any to get Sansa to the Isle!
With the tourney, people will be coming in from all over the Vale. It does seem like the potential for plague is here:
So there are ports--ships coming in and out from all over the place. Port cities tended to be hotbeds of disease, with plague often spread to other areas via these trading cities. At this point, there's so little to base this on except for that weird coincidence with names.

No, I think you're on to something. We've been getting teased for a while now about how some "major" shit is gonna hit the fan in the Vale (though that might have been Elio who said that, and given his track record for teasers, may need to take a grain of salt with this one, ahem). Everyone also thinks that Dany is gonna enter Westeros via the Vale, so basically the Vale is gonna become Ground Zero for fuckery at some point, LOL. And thus the rom-com becomes a full-fledged soap opera! Off-topic, but.... It just occurred to me that, with the Sparrows taking over King's Landing, I wonder if the High Sparrow will require all the brothers from the QI to come to KL to pay homage at some point or something. Assuming the trusty Gravedigger tags along, that would put Sandor in the vicinity of Ser Robert Strong, and even though I haaaaate the Cleganebowl theory, I'm totally down for him mercy-killing UnGregor. This is the only scenario I can imagine where that would be possible though. But I digress...

No, don't stop, I love digressing and I love it when you digress too, because the best ideas come when they like, not in alphabetical order,LOL.
Another parallelism is that if the tourney at Ashford foreshadows what will happen to Sansa's suitors, the Targaryien champion ,Valarr Targaryen, never became king because he died of some terrible illness that also killed his brother and grandfather. What if the greyscale kills Aegon? If he becomes her suitor he may have a fate similar to his Targaryen predecesor at Asford.

Hahaha, thanks, but that was just kind of out of nowhere from what we were talking about! ;-)
Ooooh good call! I have to wonder, though, how Aegon will even come into contact with Sansa. He's getting ready for (or in the middle of) a siege at the moment in the stormlands, which is significantly south of the Vale. But who knows, anything can happen!
