Oookay, so, this episode is the first one this season that didn't leave me wanting to punch a hole through my TV screen, LOL, but that's still not saying much.
The only things that really annoyed me about this episode were:
- Grey Worm, who is ALIVE, mooning about what a failure he is and how he wasn't afraid of death but of never seeing Missandei again (oh brother) and Missandei making out with him. Puleeeeeze. 1,500 pages per book of material, and THIS is what ends up on my TV screen?
- Roose and Ramsay have that convo about Walda's pregnancy and the circumstances of Ramsay's birth that Roose has with Theon in the books. I was SO hoping to hear Roose's fond musings about his and Walda's frequent and raucous lovemaking, but no.... instead, we get Ramsay making a few tasteless fat jokes and Roose having basically no reaction to it. Ugh.
- Setting up this lame "Melrose Place"-esque triangle between Ramsay, Sansa, and Myranda. Gimme a break. Then Myranda approaches Sansa all fake-friendly and whips out the Basic Bitch's go-to line when trying to make conversation with a girl she hates: "I like your dress!" OMG, I thought I was watching a '90s teen rom-com.
Then Myranda sends Sansa into the kennels to see Theon, and there's this long-ass shot of Sansa making her way down the hall with all the hounds barking like crazy at her, LMAO.... Hey D&D, this is NOT the Sansa/Hound reunion we were looking for!! ;-P
Anyhoo, after this scene, she finally changed into a different outfit -- one of those frumpy Northern outfits, BUT at least she wasn't wearing her awful "leash" anymore, and boy, what a difference it made in her personality!
So, she's having din-din with Ramsay, Roose, and Walda, and she's not even trying to hide her disdain, which.... good for her, but it's certainly not consistent with the whole "wrap Ramsay around your finger" strategy LF tried to get going. Having said that, though, I thought she was... pretty amazing in this scene. Walda (bless her heart) says to her "It must be difficult for you, being in a strange place." With all the poise and composure she can muster, Sansa looks her in the eye and says, "This isn't a strange place. This is my home. It's the people who are strange." Now, I know y'all don't like Sophie very much, LOL, but I thought she delivered this line (and played this entire scene) perfectly. This was the closest to book-Sansa I've seen all season. Those small acts of defiance in an impossible situation... Not trying to hide her disdain but keeping her "courtesy armor" on... I was so happy!!! Dunno if it's gonna last though.
Then there was the introduction to "Jorah Connington"... which... I guess? That means he has to get to Westeros somehow, right? Are D&D gonna have him march on Bear Island to try and reclaim his House like JonCon did or something? I… suppose that could work? I mean, Jorah and JonCon have the same goal – restoring a Targaryen to the Iron Throne. But does this mean that book-Jorah’s own storyline/endgame is inconsequential?
Hide yo kids, hide yo wives, Greyscale is comin'!!
What did y'all think?
