So, I can complain loudly and long about what I hate about the show version, but is there anything you like? For me, the one character I do adore on the show is Sam. I think John Bradley is brilliant, and I wish he had better lines and a better show to work with in Seasons 3 and 4. For me, he embodies Sam so well, and I would like to hug him .

I will say, I think the show is executed brilliantly. I think that's why it makes me so mad that they get storylines and characterizations so wrong, because everything else is just sooo well done. The music, the cinematography... "Blackwater" is one of the most glorious hours of television ever, IMO. (Even though they did muck up the SanSan stuff, but I think GRRM did an admirable job with trying to salvage all the groundwork leading up to that scene that D&D had demolished, and it WAS a very lovely scene.) And I've mentioned before how much I love the riot scene when Sandor saves Sansa. And I also like how, during the beating scene, they had Sandor actually place his cloak on Sansa's shoulders instead of just "tossing" it to her. That was a very sweet moment. :-)
I have very few complaints when it comes to the casting, that's for sure. As you say, John Bradley is a perfect Sam, and likewise the chick who plays Gilly reeeaaaally has that whole "inbred as fuck" aesthetic down, LOL! All the same, I don't want to see Sam's "fat pink mast" thankyouverymuch! lololol

I saw "Blackwater" before I had gone completely rabid regarding the books (at that point, I was still uncertain whether I was reading too much into the Sansan scenes). I thought it was lovely at the time and I agree with you about the scenes from season 2. I still think Season 1 is very watchable, and the theme song still gives me a little thrill (I could go the rest of my life without hearing the Castamere song again, however).
Gilly looks the part, and Sean Bean was an awesome Ned. Regarding "fat pink masts," well...I'd rather see that instead of another naked prostitute sex lesson. John Bradley did offer to take off his shirt to get in the quota for male nudity AND breasts. LOL.

Hahaha, good point, if we have to see people getting it on, I'd rather it be two characters we actually care about than some random skankery. ;-P
I think the reason they beat us over the head with the "Rains of Castamere" was so that we'd be able to identify it more easily when the band starts playing it at the Red Wedding. And I totally agree about the theme song. I got soooo pumped when it started playing during the IMAX screenings, LOL!

I can't remember in which post you said you thought I read the books a long time ago but I read them some months before the series started. If I had read them so long ago I guess I'd be nuts about the long wait, the bad writing in the series, etc. I liked the theme son, the first season except the sexposition, the locations and most of the cast but the things I dislike annoy me so much that it wasn't worth it to continue watching. I didn't enjoy it, so I decided to quit.

And John Bradley, I love that boy, he is so smart, funny and charming. I think I like him even more than Sam in the books. He is a lovely young man.
