Sillier-things, do you think that perhaps he did kiss her? Because I read somewhere that George said it never happened, there is a quote with something he said about the unkiss.
When I read that scene I had the feeling there were unexplained pauses, like that silent moment before he left, or the longer pause before she got up and wrapped herself up in his cloak feel really mysterious. I also analysed the text and it seems to describe a sexual act,not just a kiss, so I thought I had suspected more going on because of this second layer that I had examined. There is always that feeling there was more to it than we read in Sansa's chapter but perhaps what's missing is what they felt, whan they desired bacuse we don't know that. Sansa is so reserved that we don't really know what she felt and we don't get to know what Sandor feels and thinks first hand either. Was there more? Well, if George hadn't said himself that the kiss didn't happen I could have thought it did happen but she mentioned it later bacause it happened on that bed befor he left, this is as likely an interpretation as the one leading us to believe it never happened and she made it up later.
I still think she could have a movie in her head but she doesn't really know what it feels like, just like me when I was her age and I imagined scenes like the ones in movies and love stories. I may have imagined kissing someone I liked but that's nothing like recalling a real kiss, not by far. You can imagine all you like but you don't have the sensorial element, it's like when blind people dream, I've read that they can't imagine what they never knew, so colours and shapes are out of their reach. You can't know what you will feel when his lips brush yours for the first time at last, or when he presses his lips against yours, and much less what the sensation will be like when he crosses the barrier of your lips to venture into your mouth for the first time, no, no Sansa, you still don't know how wonderful this will be, you can only imagine but the real experience will surpass by far all your fanciful expectations. It will be great when she kisses Sandor at last after wanting him and imagining that kiss for so long.
When asked about the kiss discrepancy George R. R. Martin simply replied that Sansa is an “unreliable narrator”, [1]
“ Well, not every inconsistency is a mistake, actually. Some are quite intentional. File this one under "unreliable narrator" and feel free to ponder its meaning. . . ”
He has added that the kiss “will eventually mean something”.[2]
“ You will see, in A STORM OF SWORDS and later volumes, that Sansa remembers the Hound kissing her the night he came to her bedroom... but if you look at the scene, he never does. That will eventually mean something, but just now it's a subtle touch, something most of the readers may not even pick up on. ”
This has led to much speculation by fans on what he means and intends.
